Modern Regularity Guidelines

PREAMBLE
  1. Regularities are variation of circuit rules to allow those competitors who are unwilling to race, to run their vehicles for their own enjoyment.

It is a competition between drivers of setting consistent lap times over a given number of laps.

The continuing existence of regularities relies upon the exercise of common sense from all participants, and good judgement on the part of organisers in selectively accepting or rejecting entries for specific events.

Gross variations in potential speeds are not condoned, and lap times close to racing lap times for specific vehicles are also unacceptable.

  2. SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Event organisers must be aware that widespread disparity of nominated lap times is undesirable in the interest of safety.

Lap times likely to be nominated by competitors should be taken into account when arranging fields.

Alternatively, organisers may assemble fields according to vehicle type of category.

In any case, no nominated lap time shall be slower than 140% of the fastest nominated lap time.

Competitive racing by competitors shall not be tolerated.

Once passed on a lap, the passed car may not repass the other car until the completion of that lap notwithstanding this rule, should the car now at the front slow down unusually or leave the track, it may be repassed.

The car so repassed then may not repass the car already passed once until the end of that lap. No passengers may be carried in vehicles.

  3. DETERMINATION

At a time prior to the event, set by the organisers, each competitor will nominate a designated lap time for the event.

Organisers have the right to refuse to accept a nominated time if it is deemed unreasonable and not in accordance with the guidelines.

In such case, the competitor will be required to nominate an alternative lap time acceptable to the organisers.

For each lap on which the competitor records a lap time less than his nominated time, a penalty of 2 points per tenth of a second of the error shall apply, and for each lap greater than his nominated lap time a penalty of 1 point per tenth of a second of the error shall apply.

The winner is the competitor who has completed the required number of laps and has accrued the least penalty points.

Once the competitor has completed the required number of laps no further scoring for that competitor shall apply.

Any subsequent laps must be timed (see 4 below)

  4. LAP TIMES

The organisers shall nominate a minimum lap time for each field.

Due account of the field should be considered and there should be some headroom for any competitor to break their time.

There however, should not be too much time so as to compromise the safety of the event.

Any competitor who records a lap time lower than the minimum time, shall be excluded from the event and a black flag shown to the competitor.

(This also includes any extra laps that a faster car may get in after their prescribed laps; therefore all laps must be timed,)

  5. TRACK DENSITIES

The track density for such events shall be the same as for Touring Car races on the circuit.

  6. 6 ELIGIBLE CARS

Vehicles complying with schedules A & B, sections 6 of the CAMS Manual are eligible.

The use of cruise controls during the competition is prohibited, and the organisers may require that any such systems fitted be rendered inoperable.

  7. EVENT STARTING

Competitors shall be marshalled in the pit lane or marshalling area (as appropriate to the circuit layout) in order of nominated lap times, with the fastest cars in the front.

At the commencement of the event the cars are to be directed to enter the circuit at 2 second intervals for a warm-up lap during which overtaking is prohibited.

Timing will commence for each car as it crosses the Start line at the beginning of the trial period (flying start) and will continue until the prescribed number of laps is completed.

Competitors may continue until the end of the event is declared by the showing

    of the chequered flag.

  8. COMPETITOR REQUIREMENTS

Competitors will be required to produce a CAMS Level 2S Licence as a minimum, together with proof of current membership of a CAMS affiliated car club.

  9. SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Drivers must wear helmets complying with AS1698, or other standard as shown in Schedule D of the CAMS Manual of Motor Sport. In open vehicles, goggles/visors complying with Schedule D must be worn.

CAMS recommends that competitors wear a full-face helmet when driving in open vehicles (refer Schedule D).

In Regularity events, clothing for drivers must be from ankles to neck to wrists.

Clothing and footwear of flammable synthetic material, such as nylon, is not acceptable.

  10. GENERAL

Vehicle logbooks are not mandatory, but if a logbook has been issued for a competing vehicle, that logbook must be presented at scrutineering.
